DIATONICFAMILY
A digital band from The Republic of South Africa in a province called Gauteng in a township East of Johannesburg called Kwa – Thema. Diatonicfamily was formed mid February 2013 as it consisted of four members which now is left with three members whom are: Tebogo Kubeka known as Dj BunnY (Dj/Producer/Poet), Linda Tokhwe known as Leeds (Pianist/Producer/Songwriter) and Shadrack Mbonani (Guitarist, Saxophonist).
What brought them together is the similar vision and volition to make music that will last. One of their dreams is to travel the world because their music is distinctive and influential.
Diatonicfamily has performed at The Place Lounge & Eatery (Heidelburg), Da Venue (Kwa Thema), Bahama Pub & Restaurant (Kwa Thema), Disoufeng Pub (Soweto), Paradise Village (now Flux Lounge in Ratanda), Picasso Lounge (Ratanda), Lungelo Nyandeni’s wedding (owner of Mofunk Records), Plateau (Duduza), Small Kitchen (Duduza), Mpumi’s Place (Kwa Thema).
Performing music live connects them with spectators/fans and it gives them a chance to grow musically and improve their craft. With their creativity they are now composing different genres of music. Music has no limitation that is what keeps them going which makes them to be experimental as their name. The band’s first performance was at a pub in their neighbouring area where a number of people came out to support them.
One of Diatonicfamily’s milestones was being runners up in a world-wide competition where they were the only Africans: www.famemusic.com/competition/winners/dj-contest. The competition occurred for the two months (26 June 2014 – 07 August 2014). Diatonicfamily is growing strength to strength as they acquire a lot of followers in only a couple of years since its formation.
As a sign of progress, Diatonicfamily signed four (4) publishing deals with (i) Tbs Recordings (Italy) which it was their first ever online release(ii) Mofunk Records of South Africa as they released two Eps namely Joy EP and Joy EP2. (iii) Kanzen Records (iv) UltraTone Records.
Diatonicfamily has never failed to believe in what they love and they are willing to keep on composing more music. The more they perform and produce their music is the more they gain experience and exposure.
In June 2015 Diatonicfamily established their online radio called Diatonicfamily Online Radio which is going to be a success as it will be uplifting underground djs/music composer and music collectors. Currently most shows are pre-recorded and available on their YouTube channel
FAME MUSIC 2014 RUNNERS UP
The year 2014 was a year Diatonicfamily will never forget as they set a milestone to whoever competing with the entity. One day as they were going through their e-mails they saw a competition hosted by FAME Music, a website that hosts various competitions for music composers (mainly EDM) and djs.
Diatonicfamily felt they should take part not knowing that this would result in them occupying the second position in this global competition.
One thing that makes this so interesting is the fact that Diatonicfamily was the only Africans who participated in this competition that saw its winner Carlo Servodio from Italy flying to Dubai and performing at the GQ Club and living it up for a month.
As runners up, Diatonicfamily recieved an amount of cash and clothing gear (t-shirt and cap)
OUR UPCOMING SPECIAL CD
After successfully releasing a couple of EPs and single tracks, we are happy to bring you our CD. Hmmm........ sounds very interesting. This CD contains only 5 of the best tracks, some (if you do follow our music) are known tracks and a mixture of exclusives. The artwork is not yet final but we give you a glance of this project that you will enjoy.
